CurriculumOpen Door has a play-based curriculum which fosters the emotional, social, physical and intellectual development of our students. Our goal is to encourage each child to be self confident, independent and critical thinkers. Each class has a daily schedule. The day includes free-play and table top activities, outdoor/indoor physical activities, snack time, weekly themed art projects, story/library time, and music. Our class curriculums include some of the following examples. The two year-old class follows themes such as forest creatures, sea life, seasonal themes, and incorporates many hands-on cooking activities. The three year-old classes are introduced to the concepts of numbers, letters and rhyming patterns through nursery rhymes. The four year-old classes move into reading readiness, math and science exploration, working cooperatively, and building self confidence and kindergarten readiness skills.
We offer specials classes monthly. We have yoga twice month, which incorporates yoga, music and mindfulness. In addition, monthly enrichment activities/programs are presented to the children; Turtle Back Zoo, the Arboretum, Millburn Fire Department, Animal Rescue Program, and Science Tellers, just to name a few! |
