Curriculum
|
Open Door has a play-based curriculum that nurtures the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual development of each child. Our goal is to inspire confidence, independence, and curiosity—encouraging children to become self-assured, independent, and critical thinkers.
Most importantly, we make learning FUN! Daily Schedule & Curriculum Overview Our daily schedule blends structure and flexibility, giving children the comfort of routine while encouraging curiosity and creativity. A typical day includes: · Engaging free-play & table-top activities · Outdoor & indoor physical play · Snack time (nut free) · Weekly themed art projects that incorporate our curriculum · Story & library time to foster early literacy skills · Music & movement to encourage self-expression, build pattern recognition and increase listening skills Curriculum by Age · 2s: Explore thematic units such as forest creatures, sea life, and the seasons, with plenty of hands-on cooking activities and sensory play to spark curiosity and creativity. The 2s curriculum includes singing, dancing, dramatic play, interactive storytelling and lots of play! · 3s: Introduced to academic concepts like numbers, letters, and rhyming patterns through a nursery rhyme based curriculum. Our curriculum, songs, and play-based learning teaches children about language, rhythm, and memory skills. The repetitive nature of nursery rhymes helps children develop phonetic awareness and early reading skills. · 4s: Focus on reading readiness, early math and science exploration, cooperative learning, and building self-confidence. Our Pre-K program and weekly thematic units help strengthen kindergarten readiness skills and prepare them for a smooth and successful transition into kindergarten. We offer special classes monthly. We have yoga twice a month, which incorporates movements, music and mindfulness. Our 4's students have Spanish class bi-weekly. In addition, monthly enrichment activities/programs are presented to the children such as; The Cora Hartshorn Arboretum, Millburn Fire Department, Animal Rescue Program, and Science Tellers, just to name a few! |
